Bentonville Attractions and Things to See
Bentonville is located in
northwest Arkansas and is home to the Wal-Mart Home Offices that
is the headquarters of the Wal-Mart stores, which has become the
biggest employer and retailer in the world. This city would be
named after Senator Thomas Hart Benton of Missouri and is home
to many hotels that are sure to fit into your budget and
vacationing plans to visit.
The city has the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and the
Peel Mansion and historic gardens that offer excellent
opportunities to enjoy outstanding artworks and more. The Peel
Mansion is a living showcase of the period it was built and
lived in by Colonel Samuel West Peel who had the Italianate home
constructed on the edge of the city. It would become a working
farmstead with 180 acres of apple orchards that is a showcase
today of that marvelous period after the Civil War that would
eventually bring in the Victorian era.
The city has many excellent restaurants that offer local
cuisine, and many of the usual fast food places that have popped
up all over the country. The River Grille is one such of these
that provides the finest local foods and opened in 2000
attempting to raise the standard of excellence in this northwest
Arkansas city, and welcomed as one of the finest restaurants in
the state. It has an excellent atmosphere of black and white
Ansell Adams prints set off by dark wood paneling and mission
period lighting. Their menu offers the best aged, hand cut, USDA
prime beef, market fresh seafood that is flown in every day and
innovative side dishes to please your palate. They have a
marvelous wine list that is special and inclusive with a number
of reasonably priced selections that are just the right
accompaniment to your meals.
The Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art is scheduled to open,
11-11-11 and contains magnificent trails and grounds that offer
great hiking and walkways that will enthrall you and your family
with a beautiful forested valley that runs to within a couple of
blocks from the city's town square. Their Crystal Bridges Trail
is a pedestrian bike path that is connected with the city's
trail system and runs along the western slope of the museum's
grounds, that include an observation deck that provides visitors
with an outstanding view and serenity not usually found on the
grounds of an art museum. The collection will showcase a
splendid overview of American art that includes American
masterworks that span the colonial period to contemporary works,
with excellent sculpture in the interior galleries and outdoor
trails.
